Good Arrows
– Film Review. This is a new “Mockumentary Film” written by Irvine Welsh about a fictitious Welsh Darts Superstar. The
story unfolds after a TV reporter/interviewer arrives at the posh house that has
been bought with the stars new found wealth. Later on it is revealed that the
star has kept the first terraced house that he bought and fondly remembers. (We
have heard that before!) As with all good darts players the star of the film had
his own mentor, with whom he has fallen out, when his new “Lady” came on the
scene. (Played superbly by Katy Brand) The interviewer delves into the stars
background and exposes everything from the world of darts that all seasoned
darts players will be more than familiar with including “Dartitus,”
“Darters Thumb” and warm up routines as well as lesser known drug testing.
The film revels in all the crudity and baseness surrounding
darts with “Darts Groupies” and players having “A few beers” with the
flatulence/wind problems that can follow. There are a couple of “Darts
Accidents” recalled that could never have happened and yet just might! The
whole film is peppered with rather “Choice Language” and I do mean it was
well chosen to represent the way that pub darters talk! There are no CGI special effects and it must have been very low budget, BUT Every Darts Player, over a certain age, will be able to relate to this truly awful film and find it compelling viewing! Although it is only 90 minutes (2 Hours with the adverts on TV) it really does capture the world of darts superbly with a lot of tongue in cheek humour and could easily become a cult classic amongst the darting fraternity! The film is available to buy on video as from the beginning of February 2009. |
