Kevin Painter
Kevin Painter’s stage nickname is the “Artist” as he is one of the P.D.C. elite players who is sponsored by Unicorn.. Kevin has a daughter, Madison Elise, by his partner, Janine Gough who used to be a darts player herself. Although Janine is Welsh originally she has settled with Kevin in Daventry, Northamptonshire where they now live. Considering Kevin only started playing in 1994 and the fact that he won the “England Open” the year afterwards in ‘95 and the “British Open” in ’96 he rapidly made a name for himself on the B.D.O. circuit, but his step up into the P.D.C. was a big one for him as he struggled for a while to become recognised as the player that he is.
2004 was an important year for Kevin as he gained much acclaim in that
year. He will probably never forget it either, because that was the year that he
came runner up to Phil Taylor in the World Championship after one of the greatest matches ever seen on T.V. On that occasion he took the match
to an unheard of sudden death leg
for the decider where he lost, but he had beaten Phil Taylor in the first round
of the 2001 World Grand Prix 3 years earlier.
A
couple of years ago a leg injury affected his form and kept him out of many
tournaments, but in 2007, despite being un-seeded, he reached the quarter-finals
of the first Grand Slam of Darts. In 2008 he added to his tally of memorable
victories by knocking out Raymond Van Barneveld from the World championship in
the last 16.
In 2008 Kevin made history in another way by being one of 16 professionals featured in the darts videogame, “PDC World Championship Darts.”his T.V.
This
Spring Kevin has been in the news again after an altercation he had on stage
with fellow player Adrian Lewis in Holland. With this in
mind Kevin's walk-on music “I Predict a Riot,” by the Kaiser Chiefs, seems most
apt.
Kevin
is a keen follower of Ipswich Town F.C. where he is also a season ticket and
shareholder. In fact he often plays wearing a blue shirt in honour of their
colours.
Like
other professional players he has his own web-site
www.kevinpainter.co.uk and
on line shop where fans can buy all sorts of merchandise such as Darts,
Pictures, T-shirts, Mugs, Bears etc.
