Steve Beaton

1993 was a big year for Darts player Steve Beaton as this was the year when he turned professional and he also married his wife Nanett. The Winmau World Masters win was another big milestone for Steve that year, but having now played for nearly 30 years he still proudly remembers when he was first picked to play for England in 1991 and for whom he went on to play for 10 years. Then he moved to the PDC where his entrance music is "Stayin Alive" by The Bee Gees. While he played for England though, he was capped no less than 29 times in all.

Steve has been successful in many major competitions around the World including Opens in Europe, such as Holland, Sweden, Denmark and Belgium, during his career. Also making a name for himself in competitions, such as the famous Las Vegas Desert Classic he still feels that the 1996 Embassy championship remains one of his crowning glories.

At 6 foot 3 inches he is one of the taller darts players, but has never had the typical darts player’s stature with the associated “Beer Belly.” On the contrary his athletic frame and tanned good looks gave rise to his nicknames of the “Bronzed Adonis” and “Housewife’s Choice,” but his likeness to Tom Selleck has also earned him a sometimes used nickname of, “Magnum PI.” Like other players, Steve, has tried to keep fit and has run several charity marathons in recent years which have led to another name of “Marathon Man.”

Not only is Steve into keep fit, but like many other pro players, he likes to play golf. In 1998 Steve took part in the “Paul Gaskell celebrity golf tour” that raised £670,000 for charity. Again in 2006 Steve took part in another charity celebrity golf tour which raised over £240,000.

Born in Coventry in 1964, Steve is a Midlands lad, as are many of the Worlds best darts players, and in fact he still lives in Southam, Warwickshire, where he works part time as a driving instructor.

As one of the more notable darts personalities his face has become in demand by both Euro-sport and ITV Sport for whom he does some commentating. With so many strings to his bow Steve, is still a committed darts player and although 2009 was a very good year for Steve, with him reaching the final stages of many very important competitions that brought back into the world's top 32, the year did not end so well for him with him being knocked out in the early stages of the World Championship in December by Andy Hamilton from Stoke.

Many Dart Players have their own websites and Steve’s website is one of the more popular receiving in excess of 250,000 hits per year. It can be found at http://www.stevebeaton.co.uk/
