Vincent van der Voort

Born on the 18th December 1975 in Purmerend, Holland, Vincent is another Dutch player who has come up through the ranks and made a name for himself in the field of darts on the World's stage. Both of his parents played darts and inevitabley he picked up a set of darts and started playing from the early age of about 8. Quickly developing a feel for darts and enjoying the sport he was soon playing in youth competitions and was a teenage champion. It was some years before he represented his country and really made his mark by winning the Danish Open in 2002 and again in  2006.

His unusual throwing action with machine gun like speed has earned him the nickname of Greased Lightening. However, his rapid throwing does not detract from his accuracy as he is amongst the best with a high ranking and a 9 dart 501, thrown during the Nuland Players Championship in 2009, to his name.

Some of his other notable achievements that British fans might have seen were in the B.D.O. World Championship of 2005 when he made it to the  quarter-finals and he has been a three-time semi-finalist on the P.D.C. Pro Tour. Vincent has also been seen on British television when he competed in all 3 Grand Slams at Wolverhampton. Last year he did not get any further than the opening rounds after being beaten by Terry Jenkins in the final round of the round robin.
In 2007 Vincent also hit the darts headlines when he was the UK Open Runner Up losing to fellow countryman Barney and I am sure the £15,000 prize was very well received and much appreciated. This year he again reached the semi-finals in the UK Open.

2007 was a very important year for Vincent in other respects because on the night of the 2007 B.D.O. World Championship Final, January the 14th, van der Voort, Jelle Klaasen and Michael van Gerwen stated on Dutch television that they would be switching their allegiance to the Professional Darts Corporation. Vincent's entrance music for the big matches is Fast Fuse by the band Kasabian.
