Match Report Pear Tree Club V Greyhound 17/6/09

The evening got off to an interesting start with 8 of the Greyhounds players ready to play by about 8.30 pm and no home team! Mark it seems, had been away while Graham had been organising the new league and for whatever reason no team had been organised. There were five club members in the bar when we were ready to start and one of them had been playing on the board when we had arrived. So, I approached the five and persuaded them to start a team for the club, or at least give us a game on the inaugural match.

We should have realised from the outset that some of the lads had played before as they had their own darts with them!

The doubles were up first and fortunately I was playing with a young lady. I say fortunately, because otherwise we wouldn’t have won the first game as she carried me!

Our second pairing was two ladies for the Greyhound and it seems two sharks for the club. The club won two nil and it was no surprise as T Crozier had a Ton start, a 180 and a 140. His mate J Hope also hit a Ton. Not bad scores in two legs of 501!

John Fawdrey was the first singles player for the Greyhound and won 2 – 0 after hitting two Tons.

The second singles was closer than it might have been as A Andrews for the club scored a Ton and 140 to take the first leg, but Stuart Bradley took the second only to lose his way on third.

The third singles  saw some more excellent scoring from T Crozier as he hit another 140 and several scores in the 70’s and 80’s to quickly take both legs.

In the last game then, we, the Greyhound were playing for the draw and the lads made a fight of it with the game going to the third leg and ending with them both trying for their finishing double at the same time. The first one to drop it in was J Hope after some valiant darts from both John and Dai Evans for the Greyhound.

The Pear Tree Club beat us 4 –2 and although they hadn’t even gone into the club for a darts match they seemed to enjoy their 4 – 2 victory over us! With any luck the new league will find it’s feet, the club lads will continue playing and maybe we will get our own back at our place on the return!
