Match Report For
Greyhound V Chetwynd Arms
(20/1/10)

Click For Link To Web-siteAs we all know Neil Hutchins is fond of dogs, so he must have felt quite at home when he walked into the Greyhound because the local shooting club had had an earlier meet in the pub with many of them still there with all their dogs. I must hastily say that all thanks must go to Sarah for making sure the dart board was clear for us when we wanted it though.

The first doubles game was fairly painless for the Greyhound with John and Sinead taking it 2-0. The same could not be said of the second with Dai and myself against Neil Hutchins and Jim Ashby. Although Dai hit a nice little ton, neither Neil or myself could find our distance at all. In the end Neil did manage a 123 and I got a very unconventional 84 finish on one leg. T5, T19 + D6 even though nobody could work out if it was correct for several minutes!

The first of the singles saw Dai on again against Neil’s wife Dawn who said she regularly played in the ladies darts leagues and the way she threw she must certainly be one of their best players. Dawn hit some fantastic scores. In the 1st leg she had 109 left and hit T20, then T8 for 19 and then another T20 instead of 5 and so bust.
In the second Dawn had 161 left and hit 2 x T20 asked what was left and what to go for. I stupidly said get a 7 which she did leaving 34 having scored 127. However she got a 2 with her next throw and confidently got the 32 making the score 1-1.
The 3rd saw a late start for Dawn, but she hit 140 on the way down with Dai hitting 125. Also hitting a 132 she managed to steal it on double 1 as Dai couldn’t finish. The man of the match, or lady for them, must surely go to Dawn, whereas ours would go to our Lady player, Sinead.

John was up next for the Greyhound hitting lots of 60’s and 80’s with 3 tons and good steady darts, but he did struggle a little to finish winning 2-0 in the end. In the 1st leg John missed a 160 finish scoring 140 and then screwing it up to leave D1. In the second leg Jim Ashby had a late start on 93 with John then hitting a 140 and Jim a ton in reply, but it was too late then.

Some devastating darts from Neil and myself followed even if some were a little erratic. There must have been about 10 scores or more of a ton and ton pluses. The result was 2-1 to Neil although it shouldn’t have been, but I just couldn’t finish. I was taking as many darts to not finish, as to get down!

The last game saw the Greyhound still 3-2 up needing Sinead to win for 3 points and them needing Neil Ashley to win for a draw. To be honest Sinead out classed him on scoring, but finishing let her down a bit. After losing the first leg, Neil asked Dai who was marking, how much it would cost him to score him a win. I said a pint should be enough, then added that it was Dai’s wife he was playing, so better make that 2 pints. At the end of the second leg, Sinead was some 200 points in front and on double 1, but she let him come down. He left 32 and then got it first dart to level up the score at 1-1.

The last leg was hard fought, but Sinead got it after a bit of a double one marathon taking the score line to 4 – 2 for the Greyhound and giving us only our second win in two seasons!!!!
